The renovation and reuse of 8 existing nineteenth century French farm buildings is the focal point of a new major holiday resort in rural France. Fine local craftsmanship characterises this vernacular group of buildings, each with it’s own palette of stone, granite, lime render, slate and timber joinery. Some of the renovation is complete and occupied as holiday apartments from which to enjoy walking, fishing and horse-riding in the surrounding area, known as ‘land of 1000 lakes’. Future phases include completion of the resort amenities with central welcoming reception & café, children’s play centre, conference facilities.

The carpenters of the area have a reputation of being some of the finest master craftsman in France. The structural carpentry is exquisite and the design exposes and celebrates this at every opportunity. Where contemporary building practice has often come to rely on screws, plates or fixings, in La Creuse immaculate joints are always crafted without.

Mador Architects are overseeing a carefully phased construction programme of the various buildings.
