CELTIC MANOR
CONTRACT VALUE: £6 MILLION
CLIENT: CELTIC MANOR GOLF COUNTRY CLUB
LOCATION: NEWPORT, GWENT, WALES
CONTRACT PERIOD: 1994 - 1996
Completed in 1996 this luxury golf clubhouse and conference centre is the largest building of its type in the UK, totalling over 8500 sqm. A key part of the overall Celtic Manor resort the building includes full club facilities, conference and banqueting rooms capable of seating 1000 persons and complete health and fitness club with a 25 metre leisure pool complex.

We became involved initially to deal with what had become a protracted planning problem that was preventing the project from proceeding. We first agreed a new site for the building complex which worked to respect the line of the crest of the hill side and then proceeded to design the new building. The building creates a series of interior spaces running along a single axial route. All the major spaces face out to the course and the distant views beyond. As with most of our projects we have used the building to create a series of protected outdoor areas that act to extend the space.

Designed as a tournament venue from the beginning the complex hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup.
