This unusual property - a cluster of interconnected volumes in the middle of an urban block - is combined with an unusual brief to reinvent a disused industrial space as a home for the family but with specialist, fully accessible accommodation for a wheelchair user requiring 24hour care.
We worked closely with our co-designer TRICIA GUILD and her firm Designers Guild on developing an integrated vision of architecture and interior for this project. The selection of textiles, furnishings, colours and materials were part of the design process from the beginning.
The colours work to define the architectural volumes in a wonderfully subtle and powerful manner.
Beautiful, spacious industrial style volumes offer unique living quarters with a sense of discovery in the journey from the entrance to the private spaces deep in the plan. A reinvention of one space as indoor garden greenhouse and a verdant roof terrace bring green energy into this dense bit of city, a short walk from the Thames.
A former garage building, the works included complete rebuilding and an upgrade to current living standards and environmental performance, all carried out on a tight budget. Although largely restructured, where possible the existing building materials were repurposed and reused.
We are delighted that this modestly scaled project has been shortlisted for the RIBA 2026 Awards.
